The official date of birth of Russian volleyball is considered to be July 28, 1923, when a match between volleyball players from the Higher art and technical workshops (now the Moscow architectural Institute) and the Moscow school of cinematography (today the all-Russian state Institute of cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov) took place in a sports hall on Myasnitskaya street in Moscow.
