– The season has started very busy. The Legends Cup, the Super Cup, the 2024 Russian Cup, the 2025 Russian Cup and the national championship with a full-fledged playoff will be held. In this regard, the load on the players is very significant, and our team does not have a full squad yet — there are no 14 players. A week before the start of pre-season training, Irina Kapustina informed us that unexpectedly for herself and for all of us she decided to skip this season, she is taking a break in her career. It was like a bolt from the blue for us.
Teams begin to form their roster for the new season in the winter, in the middle of the season. The team has already undergone major changes before the start of the 2024/25 season. For various reasons, I had to part with such volleyball players of the main squad as Natalia Pereira, Evgenia Startseva, Ekaterina Evdokimova, and a number of other key players. The head coach has changed at Dinamo. Taking into account all these changes, the unexpected departure of Kapustina and, in fact, the empty transfer market, we found ourselves in a difficult situation.
We wished Ira that everything went well with her, and introduced her to the head of the best perinatal center in the country, Mark Arkadyevich Kurtzer, who had previously helped many of our other volleyball players. We agreed that Ira will return after a season, and we will continue our cooperation.
– Did you manage to sign a new player instead of Kapustina?
– We have signed a contract with the volleyball player of the Chinese national team, Yunlu Wang. Her transfer was coordinated with the new head coach of Dinamo. On Monday evening, Wang arrived in Moscow. This season, she was involved in the composition of her national team in the League of Nations. Yunlu is an experienced strong player, she is 28 years old. We believe that she will seriously help Dinamo.
Yunlu originally wanted to take the 10th number in our team. And he was released after Kapustina left. But we expect that Kapustina, who previously played at number 10, will return in a season, and Yunlu will fit well into our team and spend more than one season at Dinamo. Therefore, we decided that we would leave this number for Ira, and Van would choose another number.
– When will Van make his debut at Dinamo?
