Dinamo MOSCOW cap perfect season with fourth national league title

27 апреля 2016

Moscow, Russia, April 27, 2016. On Tuesday Dinamo MOSCOW routed Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG in three sets to claim the gold medal match that capped the Final Four tournament of the Russian women’s national league. This victory accounts for Dinamo’s fourth national league title since 1992 – and the eighteenth in total by taking into consideration those that the club from Russia’s capital claimed in Soviet times. Dinamo KRASNODAR settled for third place by edging pre-favourites Dinamo KAZAN 3-2 in the bronze medal match, thus claiming the last spot available to compete in the next edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League.

Dinamo MOSCOW swept 22 matches in a row along the way to their first national league crown in seven years. “It is a great joy and there is no need to say that by playing the way we did in the semis and in the final we were going to become the eventual champions,” said a visibly happy head coach Yury Panchenko.

“I am very happy that our efforts were rewarded and it all ended up with a victory; right now I just feel terribly exhausted,” added team captain Ekaterina Kosianenko. “We were kind of upset and frightened after what happened to Sinead Jack [the Trinidadian middle blocker of Uralochka fainted before the start of the match and was taken to hospital], it was just terrible. However, as soon as the match started, we were somehow able to regroup and to control our emotions. Our performance was not the best today, but I am happy that in the end we could edge our rivals.”
