General information:
The universal sports hall "Druzhba" was built for the competitions of the XXII Olympiad in 1980. The authors of the project were architects I. A. Rozhin (who built Luzhniki in 1956), Y. Bolshakov and V. Tarasevich. The Druzhba USZ is located on the embankment of the Moskva River, near the Vorobyovy Gory metro station and resembles a starfish in shape. During the Olympics-80, volleyball competitions were held here. The central game room (40 x 40 m, 20 m high) is surrounded on four sides by bleachers, the upper of which are stationary, and the lower ones are easily removed by shifting the "accordion". Thus, various types of venues are created, and the capacity of the hall varies from 1,700 to 3,078 people.
In 2016, it was decided to reconstruct the Druzhby building, which was in disrepair at that time. The landmark for the architects was the Palazzetto dello Sport sports arena in Rome. The technological task and the concept of the facility were developed on the basis of the regulations of the sports federations. Work at Druzhba began in January 2018.
Now, thanks to the reconstruction, the continuity of the tradition of playing tennis at Luzhniki is being revived in a modern format. The architectural appearance of the Druzhba was carefully preserved and recreated with the help of modern technologies and materials, as well as the internal "filling" of the building, which received new functionality.
